Spring 1

Changing Children

Our theme this half term is ‘Changing children”. The children will explain why children needed to work, focusing on the financial pressures and poverty that required families to rely on their labour. They will identify the types of jobs Tudor and Victorian children had, such as chimney sweeps, factory workers, domestic servants, and farmhands. Additionally, they will describe the harsh working conditions these children faced, including long hours, unsafe environments and exposure to dangerous situations.

This half term in Science, we will be exploring plants. They will examine the different parts of a plant and understand how each part plays a role in keeping the plant healthy. Additionally, the children will learn about the plant life cycle, including germination, growth, flowering, pollination, seed production and seed dispersal. As part of this unit, we will plan and carry out investigations to deepen their understanding of these concepts.

Jigsaw PSHE - Dreams and Goals

In this unit, the children will learn to understand the concepts of challenges and goals, exploring various ways to approach and overcome obstacles. They will focus on creating their own realistic yet ambitious goals and identify the steps needed to achieve them. Additionally, children will reflect on the possibility of not always reaching their goals, learning how to manage these emotions and consider improvements for future attempts.

There is a wonderful website below that is useful for your child and for you as a parent. It has games and information about feelings, health, illnesses and sections on body image, mental health and much more. There is also a section for you, the parent, to refer to for information on the school nurse and it shows local Solihull support services.
